Best Engineer-2021

On November 25, the results of the republican contest Best Engineer of the Year became known. Vladimir Vakhnenko, Senior Deputy Executive Board Chairman – Chief Operating Officer of UMP JSC entered top five most talented engineers of Kazakhstan in 2021.

The competition was held for the seventh time. This year it received 48 applications from different regions of the country!

All applicants are holders of high achievements in solving new problems and authors of original ideas. The contestants represented such industries as materials science, ecology, construction, metro construction, coal industry, metallurgy, thermal power engineering, computer technology, etc.

The victory of UMP representative was undoubtedly deserved. It was preceded by years of hard work. From 2010 to 2017, Vladimir Vitalievich, as part of the working group, participated in the project Engineering and technological development for pellet production from uranium oxides for AFA 3G fuel assemblies, which served as the beginning of Ulba-FA LLP establishment.

During the year, with direct participation of Vladimir Vakhnenko, a new pellet production technology was created and certified in November 2010, meeting the requirements of customers and opening the way for Kazakhstan to supply the Chinese market. Successful certification has become a determining factor in the decision to establish an assembly plant of UMP – Ulba-FA LLP.

In 2016, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the construction of a plant for production of fuel assemblies in Kazakhstan was launched in a teleconference mode, which was headed by the future winner of competition until November 2020.

On November 10, 2021, in Ust-Kamenogorsk, on the territory of Ulba Metallurgical Plant, a solemn opening ceremony of the new Ulba-FA plant was held in the format of a teleconference, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The launch of a unique fuel assembly plant in the amount of 200 tons of fuel per year is an important event for the entire nuclear industry of Kazakhstan, which allows Kazakhstan to stand on a par with such nuclear fuel producers as China, the USA, France and Russia.

The editorial office of the newspaper UMZ-inform congratulates the winner of the contest and wishes him new victories!

Vladimir Vakhnenko was awarded the title of Laureate of the V.P. Potanin Prize for his work Development and development of technology for the production of pellets from uranium oxides for AFA 3G fuel assemblies.
