SAFETY IN OUR DNA

Special seminars on the Vision Zero program were conducted for UMP employees from November 29 to December 1.

HSE Managing Director of NAC Kazatomprom JSC Manas Iskakov, UMP JSC Executive Board Chairman Sergey Bezhetskiy, Senior Deputy Executive Board Chairman – Chief Operating Officer Vladimir Vakhnenko and Director – Production Safety Yevgeniy Chumin became speakers of meetings with the plant staff.

Manas Iskakov:

– Each one of us should have a permanent state of being on alert for security issues, taking care of ourselves and our colleagues. Every day needs to be a fight for a day without injury. We advocate that everyone returns home safe and sound. According to statistics, among NAC Kazatomprom enterprises, UMP JSC has worked without industrial injuries for more than one year to date.

Become a leader, identify threats - control risks, set goals - develop programs, constantly improve the industrial safety system and ensure it at the workplace, improve skills, invest in staff. There are specific practical tools for each of the Vision Zero program postulates. These are regular management, behavioral safety audits, constant hazard analysis, STOP-cards, automation and digitalization of labor protection processes, 5S system, internal coaching, training, etc.

Sergey Bezhetskiy and Vladimir Vakhnenko spoke about the use of such a tool as a STOP-card at UMP. If the work is not safe, it must be stopped. Yevgeniy Chumin briefed his colleagues on behavioral safety audit information. The purpose of BSA is not to punish the employee, but to stop hazardous activity and identify potential consequences, and then discuss safe work methods and practices.

Summing up the event, Manas Iskakov noted:

– By holding such meetings, we strive to increase the knowledge level of employees, improve mutual relationships and develop safety culture. I would like our employees to strive for zero injuries, have responsibility for themselves and their colleagues at the DNA level.
